I can remember this time was a special and unprecedented one. President Clinton’s 2nd term was in its beginning, Grunge and Gangster Rap music was on it’s downturn, I just turned 20, a slight renaissance of the late 1960’s enter pop culture, Gen X grew in strength and the strangest but yet amazing event that occurred in the early part of 1997…was the Haley-Bop Comet. It look like a super-sized comet in Earth’s atmosphere with lights of sand dust on it’s tail. What an amazing sight to witness and a foretelling event of the future holds.

I turned 19 and had a few beers with some friends at my dad’s house, and when I was leaving to get ready for a night of debarchary and youthfulness, We hugged and said “I love You” for the first and last time in our lives. He didn’t past away for another 6 years later, but if he wasn’t drunk, he was straight forward and calm, so I guess you take what you can get. This was a day calming and enjoyable because just a few days from now, on the 22nd, a violent drive-by were friends were struck by burning bullets and my mother, who’s house we were gathered at was struck by shot gun pallets, that eventually took a toll on her health and past away 3 years later.

This was the day I was born

I was born this day. My father was a United States marine stationed in Hawaii and my mother was eagerly expecting her first child. There was a hurricane over Oahu and a military transport was required to get my mother to the hospital safely. Since we were so far from family (California), these are the empty seats in the waiting room of the hospital since no one was there for my birth.

On this day I was in Jerusalem on a school trip and my class surprised me with a birthday party. It was my 14th birthday.

This photo was taken on the day that I was born. My mom told me that She just made it to the hospital in time. Being the 4th child, she did not want to have to wait in labor in the hospital for a long time. So she waited until her mother, a nurse told her she needed to go or she wouldn’t make it. I was born in less than an hour of her arriving at the hospital. She did say that they told her to push, then put the gas mask on her (this she informs me was something she usually got after the baby was born), but I was facing the wrong way and the doctor had to turn me so that I would not have my neck broken as I came through the birthing canal. I am currently in my second year of nursing school.
