This was the day that I was born in New Albany, MS.

I was 9 years old when Mt St Helens blew. My mom, my sister, and I were in Yakima WA to visit family. The morning started out like any beautiful, sunny, blue-skied, spring day. Then, light turned to dark, day turned to night, and the ash fell from the sky. The street lights came on, car headlights came on, and it was so, so dark. Windshield wipers were necessary to brush the ash from the windshield, snow shovels were needed to remove ash from the driveways and streets. No one really knew what to do.

My grandmother went missing on February 6, 1980. On this day, February 12, 1980, my uncle found a few of her remains in the desert in Baja. She drowned in a flash flood, and was eaten by coyotes who scattered her bones. My uncle recognized her skull by her dental work. The rest of the bones near her skull were assumed to be hers. My grandfather barely survived the ordeal; with a broken leg and severe dehydration, he managed to crawl out of the desert alive….. but sadly, without his wife.

I was born on this day in San Salvador, El Salvador. What I love about this picture is the calm and warm (though cold at the same time) feeling I get from them. It feels like an intimate moment of relaxation on a long trip.

I just found out about Jamie and his project, and it just blew me away. I still haven’t had the time to go through all of his photos, just a few ones, but it has been enough for me to realize how awesome can life be with its ups and downs. I started a photo project starting this year, and after learning about Jamie and his story, I hope I can get something as meaningful as what he did.

I was born on this day in San Bernardino, CA. Although I don’t know the people in picture, I feel like it’s a snapshot into a different era. To me, this picture serves as a reminder to never stop showing your loved ones that you’re there for them. In this picture, these two people are just having coffee, but obviously took the time to look good for one another.

This is exquisite! This was the day my little sister Susan was born. I was 6 years old and happy to have a real life doll. 🙂 my parents have a Polaroid of all of us (younger brother, older sister, myself, mom, dad took it I think) at the hospital visiting after Susan arrived. Polaroids are the best!

Amazing how a picture can speak a thousand words! This is the date of my 22nd birthday and myself being the age he was when he passed away makes me think how short life is. Beautiful look into the past of a stolen moment of another’s life. Makes me appreciate every we have a little more and hold my kids a little longer. Thank you for sharing his life.

This is the day I was born. It was a Tuesday. This particular year the 20th was also the spring equinox. I imagine the eggs are symbolic of that since you can balance an egg on the first day of spring.

This is my birthday. I’m glad to see he seemed to have a good day.

This is the day I was born. I was born to a mother who never wanted kids and a father who was told he was sterile. I was their second child. My mom loved being a mom and my dad was a wonderful dad to me, but could never get over the fact that my brother was on the autism spectrum. I don’t think he loved him any less, but he was never as close to him, and was harsher to him than to me. To this day I wonder if being born was the right thing for me, and my mother.
