This is the day that I was born. I missed being born on my dad’s birthday by just a few hours, but we still celebrate our birthdays together anyway. My parents were 32 years old, my brother was 13, and my sister was 2. I’ve always thought my birthday was a magical number since it is multiples of itself (3×3=9, 9×9=81). We lived in the backwoods of Oklahoma at the time, in a cute little house that my daddy built. We would go down to the river to go swimming, mom would hang the clothes on the clothesline in the backyard, and my big brother would ride his bike up and down the dirt road. I remember he always wore those knee socks with the stripes at the top.

My only child, a son. was born on this day. Like the picture, it was a day with bursts of light, but also very blurry and confusing, Shortly after delivery we found out that my son had Down Syndrome. I am happy to say that over the years, my son has grown into an amazing, brave, hilarious and sometimes stubborn man. He turns 29 tomorrow and I am so grateful for him.
