Stories about those days.

The stories that people have about Jamie’s photos are a source of amazement.  Some are of the “that’s me and we were doing this” type of stories from Jamie’s friends. Some are the “I never met Jamie but this was taken on my birthday and it means a lot to me. And some are just stunningly moving one of a kind stories.

He makes me want to document my life daily and share my story. I will start today, age 24. Thank you Jamie and Hugh for doing all of this.

Happy Thanksgiving! A baby girl ruined her grandfathers turkey by born at 7am in Phoenix, AZ, or so that’s what he always told her, with love. My life had just begun and yours, Jamie, had only a year left. I hope this was a wonderful Thanksgiving for you, too.

This was my 15th birthday the start of my teenage life in high school. It is nice to see all of his pictures he took and remember how life was in those days as pictures is all we have as memories as our memories in our minds fade as time goes by but pictures do not and they sure can tell you a story or two just by looking at them…

Around this time in my life is when I found out I was with child with my first born. The scariest but greatest days of my life… my oldest is 18 years old now and is about to graduate high school this year. This was a very hard pregnancy from the beginning. My body was not taking the pregnancy well and I was sick every day for those 9 months almost close to death but again with faith in GOD the following year I made it and with an emergency C-section on the following July my son as born.

When my mother was told she was pregnant with me she was already close to being 4 months along and had been taking birth control throughout those months not knowing that she was with child. Doctors strongly advised my mother to have an abortion as I would be born with mental defects and some other deformities. She refused but after her 5th or 6th month of pregnancy she knew something was wrong as she had not felt me move at all and by that time she knew she had to already have felt me move as she had my brother and his pregnancy went well and she could feel him moving by then so she went to the hospital for a check up. Bad news as the doctors told my mother that there was no heart beat and I was gone and therefor they had to perform a c- section to take me out as I was no longer alive. My mother would not give up hope and even though she told me that she lied to the doctors and kept telling them that she could feel me moving when she did not, my mother said that as soon as the doctors turned away to prepare their utensils for the C-section prep she started to push me out without them knowing and I popped out. My mother said I was purple as can be and I sure was not breathing but as soon as the doctors grabbed me they performed CPR and after a struggle she said a miracle happened and I started to cry, I was born pre-mature weighing only 3 pounds. My mother in those days lived a somewhat poor life and stated had no money for a crib so she would place me in a shoe box to sleep at night so I would not fall off the bed as I was so fragile. I am so blessed GOD had me in his arms that day I was born because he gave my mother the strength to believe and have faith in him that I was alive and not to listen to the doctors but to have faith as GOD is with us all. I am very blessed to be alive as I would not be here if my mother had believed in those doctors when they first told her to have the abortion. GOD is our strength all you need is faith.

On March 20, 1980 my brother was born.
I don’t know who this is and I knew my father and loved him dearly and my brother and father looked so much alike and this man right here shared similarities with both my father and brother. I know this man has no ties with my father and brother, but is amazing how their eyes and mouth share similar lines.

Is a simple picture, but yet it has so much details in it. It makes you wonder what that person was thinking on that day??

When I was younger I had a family next to my home that I used to visit most days on my walk home from school or getting the mail. For years they would be my second family for about an hour or two a day and I never could forget them. You see I was quite young and they were all middle age or much older, but they entertained me while we played cards or just talked about our days. What they didn’t know was they gave me a safe place to avoid going home to an abusive home. For years I could laugh and be normal for a few hours out of my day. Six years this was routine and I watched as my self adopted uncles and grandparents underwent a change. I watched as my “uncle” Bernie lost weight and the genuine laughter came less often. But my adopted family always welcomed me and we spent even those times in the best of cheer. Bernie withered away in just a few short months and was gone. I was about 12 and attended his funeral. I heard he died of aids and didn’t understand what that ment till years later. It was my first encounter of losing a loved one. But the thing that got me most is I had an obsession with dragons as a child and he left me this pewter Dragon with a note saying that I will soar someday. I think he knew why I always escaped to his family everyday. I still love dragons, I even picked up a hobby as a professional fire breather and my friends joke about me being a human Dragon by night and a biologist by day. When I came here the story and photos reminded me of those days and what my second family was like and how we supported each other through laughter and love despite the reality of our lives. They got me through some of hardest years of my life and I did find my way through it all. Jamie’s story already had me in tears remembering that time and I was incredibly moved. On a whim I wanted to see what picture Jamie took on my birthday… thank you Jamie, thank you very much.
