Stories about those days.

The stories that people have about Jamie’s photos are a source of amazement.  Some are of the “that’s me and we were doing this” type of stories from Jamie’s friends. Some are the “I never met Jamie but this was taken on my birthday and it means a lot to me. And some are just stunningly moving one of a kind stories.

May 26, 2002 is my real birthday… And Donald Duck is my favorite Disney Character… Seeing Jamie’s life through pictures makes himself transparent to others I’m a big fan of Polaroid pictures, that’s the reason why I want to have one. And now, Jamie, I’m now a fan of yours. Eventhough, this is May 26, 1984, it really made me happy. Jamie’s story made me cry in Facebook and shared it. Thank you, Jamie. Thank you. And before I forgot, thank you, Hugh Crawford. I will be turning 15 this 2017 and I’m from Philippines . I will never ever forget this.

I just learned of this mans work today. I had to follow suit and see if there was a picture taken on the day I was born. I seem to be lucky to find one, and this looks to be his first year doing this. I find it interesting that the picture is of a family spending time together, eating what looks to be Chinese food, and connecting. Growing up, I mainly lived with my Grammy and Papa all of the family functions were held at their home. They had a few china sets from their travels and going to Ho Toys for take-out in Downtown Los Angeles was a family favorite. We’d order for the whole family, then come home and dish it all out family style. The young ones were introduced to chopsticks and tasty dishes, while the older ones told stories and we all laughed and talked all night. I have many many more great memories growing up in that house, and this photo evokes the true spirit of those memories. Holidays, birthdays, baptisms, BBQ’s, and so much more. I am more than excited to have found this site. I am looking forward to seeing what other forgotten events I can be reintroduced to. I feel with photography, more so than with paintings or sculpture, there is a part of the artist in every photo. We can catch a glimpse of what mattered most to that person at that very moment. We see what was so important to capture, and immortalize for all to see. In this moment, I too feel connected.

Thank you so much for sharing these photos with us. May you all find some small comfort in knowing his presence is still felt.

    Crystal L

My husband of 31 years and I were married today at City Hall in San Francisco. My whole family was here and 50 of us drank champagne in front of Dianne Feinstein’s mayoral office doors (she was not in, *sad face*). After, we had an elegant buffet and open bar in a downtown hotel for 50, and the next day we had 125 to a meadow in Golden Gate Park with croquet, volleyball, a Mexican Food truck and flowers and mix tapes. It was perfect.

My 30th birthday party held at Rock N’ Bowl at the end of Haight Street (now an Ameoba Records store). We served perfectly cubed salami and cheddar cheese with cellophane toothpicks and someone made a bundt cake in the shape of a thirty! We wore thrifted bowling shirts, drank cheap bowling alley drinks and danced in the lanes to 80’s music videos on the overhead monitors under crazy lighting. And bowled, of course. I will not deny nor confirm lines done in the bathroom. It was a magical. night.

My daughter was born just after 1am and I was hoping she would get in before midnight so that she could celebrate Halloween but Dia Delos Muertis is actually more fitting. She is a charming, fierce critical thinker who takes no prisoners and empathizes with the most marginalized souls. I am beyond proud.

On this day my first child was born, easily, in San Francisco. He is a beautiful, wonderful and complicated person that I had to eventually throw out of my house and life to save from drug addiction. At 27, he is finally maturing and coming into his own. I cherish every second of memories, especially those yet to come!

I read about this story a few days ago and I have just now gotten the chance to come on here and see the polaroids.

I vaguely remember the days of polaroids, as this photo was taken the day I was born. It makes the moment even more impactful that this photo involves a law enforcement officer, someone often forgotten and underappreciated, and the people I find myself surrounded with throughout my life.

The story is a beautiful and tragic one, but I can only hope it continues to live on and be appreciated by people my age and younger. That we can understand the significance and importance of making the most of our days.

Thank you for putting the polaroids on here, it has given me a new appreciation for the moments around me.
