My 18th birthday. Got out of the hospital that day after having been in for nearly a month. Turned out I had a rare liver disease and the doctor told my mother I had a year to live. Sorry to disappoint, but still alive, still struggling with the liver disease. Survived cancer 11 years ago. Married, two daughters – 6 years and 10 months old, been patiently waiting for a liver transplant for four years now.

The day I turned 21. A couple of friends who I introduced to each other made me a cake and we all went out to a bar, where I almost got in a fight with three guys who were waaaaay bigger than me because they bumped into me but didn’t say “sorry” or “excuse me.”. Those two friends of mine later married and have three children.
