My sister and I were born on this day. My mom’s water broke in the early hours of the morning the day after she and my dad went to see the Boston Marathon. We’re 21 now, and we both work in art museums, so a project like this is close to our hearts.

As in this photo, we were at the beach, marrying in Santa Cruz, CA, celebrating at the Boardwalk, shaking off the tension and sore smiling muscles by going on the Giant Dipper, the West Coast equivalent of the Cyclone. I turned 21 on that day. I hated college and was extremely depressed. We had a field hockey tournament away at Hanover college. I scored the winning goal and was carried off the field to my teammates singing happy birthday. Ended up being one of the best days I ever had during those 4 years.
