This was my 23rd birthday, I was a first time dad a month previously, I also had recently been laid off work and was about to lose my apartment and most posesions. It’s all good now he’s almost 20 and on his 3rd year in college.

I also lost my father on this day to leukemia – I was 5 1/2, my sister was 8 1/2. I don’t believe I’ve ever had the experience of looking at a photo created that day – thank you for this.

The day I graduated Basic and Army AIT. I couldn’t have been more lost.

This is the day we got married. A couple of years later, we attended a day game in KC, watching the Royals. When we got back, there were flowers on our porch. My wife and I looked at each other, wondering who sent the flowers. Her parents sent them, wishing us a happy anniversary. We both had forgotten!

9-34-87 This is the day I was born.

My 18 year old mother lost so much blood during the delivery, they didn’t know if either us would make it. Today we bond over our shared love of my daughter.

Side note. The first born child of the first born child on my mothers side, is always a girl. For 6 generations. We all share the middle name Marie. Except for my daughter, who has the name Olivia Rose-Marie. Named after my grandmother, Rose Marie, who lost her battle of pancreatic cancer while I was pregnant. I gave her her first great grandchild, and she was sure that it would be a girl. That gives me small measure of comfort. She died knowing that, through my daughter, our legacy lives on.

RIP Ganny. I think of you every day.

The day I was born. It’s funny that I never think about the people whose lives were just moving along as I was being born. This is the coolest “project” I’ve ever seen. If only he were here to see his impact on people he’s never even met. Thank you for keeping his work alive.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois on this day. Among other things I would go on to develop a fondness for cinematography and photography. My favorite imagery? Low light shots of neon and incandescent lighting in urban settings. I could not imagine a more perfect photo for me to remember Mr. Crawford’s story through. I will be framing this on my wall.
