I was born this day at 4:30 in the morning. Mom had started labor during her shift at work and was sent home. But she waited until the last minute to go to the hospital. She arrived at the hospital two hours before I did.

This was my 10th birthday. Ten is a big deal in my family. I had my first coed birthday party and got a bike. I crashed said bike 4 days later and broke my arm.

This was my 8th bday and I had a party with some friends at a mini golf place. Of course I went first, and so after I finish a hole, I walk over to the next tee to wait for my friends, and the first friend to finish and join me at the next hole decides he wants to try and tee off on his ball like you would with a driver. Me, being an idiot and 8, I stand about 12 ft away from him sort of diagonally from where he’s aiming, but of course the golf ball ends up right in my eye socket and I get a black eye on my bday. I’ll never forget it.

This was my 21st birthday. Was so sick from alcohol poisoning and furious with my friends the next day for being so careless and feeding me far too many shots in less than an hour. My brother said, “But honey, that’s what they all thought you wanted.” It took me another 19 years to finally understand what he meant by that. It’s been 3 years since my last drink. The band aid on this day is perfect. I love it. ❤️
