Stories about those days.

The stories that people have about Jamie’s photos are a source of amazement.  Some are of the “that’s me and we were doing this” type of stories from Jamie’s friends. Some are the “I never met Jamie but this was taken on my birthday and it means a lot to me. And some are just stunningly moving one of a kind stories.

This day in 1997 my baby girl turned 4 years old and we had a big party for her the next day on Saturday. I love her so much she’s 23 now soon to be 24. She moved to Ky. last Aug. and I miss her so much I wish she’d move back.

I was 37 at the time and I too remember this night while watching SNL a ticker was going across the bottom of the show reading that Princess Diana had died, I seriously thought it was part of a skit on SNL I could NOT believe it!

I did this with my mother and I wish I would have held her hand or something, we always tried to act like it was not a big deal, I didn’t want her to think it was hopeless and it wasn’t she lived another 12 years after her treatments for stage 4 colon cancer. I miss my mom so much, I wish I could do it over.

Wow, he’s letting us know that that one pill alone cost 26.89 and this is in 1997! It’s still going on today, Jamie.

I notice pills or vitamins on the table as well as food that it looks like he couldn’t finish. These pics are amazing and I appreciate every single one of them! Thank you Jamie wherever you may be you were way before the times as this is like Instagram!

Look at the kid’s pants, that was a sign of the times the big baggie pants/shorts pulled down under their rear ends!

I was 37 that year and my life was so busy at that time as my children were just 4 and 5 years old. I was divorced from their father and was a working single mom it was SO hard for me bc I was also devastated from their father cheating on me. I would meet my 2nd husband in this year in November we were together for 11 years.

Oh my Cynthia I couldn’t imagine you losing your mother at 7. So sorry that you lost your mother at such a young age. I was lucky, I had my mom for 54 years, she died at 81 years old 3 years ago and I miss her so much she never really knew how truly beautiful she was, physically and in her heart.

Oberlin, Ohio – Porch sitting when I was younger and I sure miss those days in the 70’s. We used to sit on the stoop when we’d go to Cleveland and visit my aunts and cousins.

Heather, Now that is sad, I am so sorry you lost your mother at such a young age. It just seems so unfair for you. My mother has been gone 3 years and she lost her mother when she was 11. God Bless you.

All of these photos tell a story for Jamie I’m sure, what surprises me while going through some of these photos is how all of these young people commenting just wanted to see the photo for the day they were born as if the whole world would have stopped on that day! Just strikes me funny, it’s all “me, me, me for some of our young generation now.

Polaroids were invented in the 70’s and used a lot. It seemed like they had a comeback in the 90’s, still used today though

This could have been my life. My husband died of cancer at 34. I was the young wife sitting on the bed with the health books, trying to remain positive. Man, fuck cancer, that’s all I can say.

This is the day my daughter was born. So strange to see a random fellow human’s experience on this day that means so much to me. Thank you for posting these. His tenacity, curiosity about life, and dedication to his art stuns me, and leaves me feeling wistful about a man I never knew.

Nothing beats stoop sitting….watching the world, still being part of it but as an observer. Seeing your neighborhood and saying hi. Nothing beats stoop sitting no matter what city…mine was Boston.
