Stories about those days.

The stories that people have about Jamie’s photos are a source of amazement.  Some are of the “that’s me and we were doing this” type of stories from Jamie’s friends. Some are the “I never met Jamie but this was taken on my birthday and it means a lot to me. And some are just stunningly moving one of a kind stories.

I was born in 92′, on this very day, the 7th of February.
My mother was rushed in to the hospital in the worst snowstorm that had ever struck my hometown since they started measuring weather in 1889. She always mention that it was such a hassle to get to the hospital every time we talk about that.

Somehow, I managed to turn out rather okay. I’m soon turning 25 and I’m going to school to become an engineer. I recently moved to a new town here in Sweden and I’ve made some loosely connected friends. However I did just find out that the girl I was with for four years up until august this year announced that she’s getting engaged with some new guy she met. I asked her to marry me, and that’s why she left me. At first I didn’t believe it, but according to a mutual friend this guy propsed with a ring “the size of an apple”. The ring I propsed with wasn’t, but I really hope that wasn’t the reason for her to make the decision that she did.

I love this site, and I appreciate you for keeping it up.

    Thank you.

    Jonas

      Hi Jonas,

I’m sorry to hear that. This day too is my birthday. I took it hard turning 25. But new chapters for the both of us. Here’s some love from CT to Sweden!❤

This picture was taken on the day I was born. I figured this picture would have been something having to do with Christmas but thanks to me coming, my parents Christmas also had nothing to do with the holiday. Real life happens on the holidays as well.

This was the day I was born at 08:28 UTC+02:00, during a snowy day in Finland. It is so interesting to see a place so different from the same time (not that I remember a thing from my first day alive).

the day i was born, Saturday October 7th 1989, my father was unable to be there because he was working on a microchip that would be on a satellite orbiting the earth. my mother was so angry with him for missing it. Instead, to celebrate his first and only child, he wrote my initials on the microchip and sent it off into space.

Fascinating, it shows that life was simply going on as normal even though this was probably one of, if not the most important day of the 20th century: the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

This was my birthday. My mom loves to tell me how unbearably hot it was that day and how she remembers lying in the hospital bed watching the weatherman fry eggs on the pavement on the midday news.

This was my birthday as well. Some family friends worked at the hospital where i was born. My mom and dad took off to party because it was so close to independence day. I guess I learned to be independent early 🙂 I had many family and friends to see me thru, and still do! I love the story of the photographer more than my own.

I can’t help but feel tears welling up and a tightness in my chest looking at this vast collection. But it’s not so much sadness as it is happiness. His life looked to be full of adventure and friends that loved him. I hope that I can live my life as much as he lived his and find the friends that will make every day a new adventure.

I just saw a short video about Mr. Livingston’s photographs on facebook. I was curious to take a peek and since today is my son’s 32nd birthday, I figured I’d look for 1/19/85. This is an amazing thing to see with all the photos and years… I’m glad I ran across the video. Thank you for sharing!

On this day, I turned 18yrs old. It was an especially memorable birthday, but not for the sole reason of turning 18 and officially becoming an ‘adult’. My whole life happened– changed, during the couple weeks leading up to this day.
I had graduated high school two weeks prior by the skin of my teeth. Aside from the social aspect, I didn’t enjoy school. I was so happy to be done. While walking across the stage to get my diploma, I wore my red graduation robe with rainbow colored knee highs and Birkenstock sandals…the ultimate 90’s Eugene/hippy attire. But the most ‘memorable’ part of my look was definitely the very large baby bump that was due to pop that day. I was going to be a teen mother and I was ready for the challenge. I had my daughter on the 11th and it wasn’t until 8 days later (my 18th birthday), that I realized how much ‘LIFE’ had happened to me in the past couple weeks.
Since I was only 18, I was used to having gifts and fun things to do on my birthdays prior. When I woke up that day, I went downstairs to find notes spread throughout the house by my family. They had all written ‘Happy 18th Birthday’ on slips of paper and hung them where I could find them all day.
It was the best feeling EVER. To have such thoughtful wishes and love all around me…to have accomplished a high school diploma…to have become a mother (something I dreamed of being), and to have become an ‘adult’ realizing the best gifts are the ones that touch our hearts.
